He is an alchemistic magician, a fanciful inventor, a kinetic sound artist. Water, fire, dry ice, a Bunsen burner and a couple of tins — that’s all Tesuya Umeda needs. «I observe, that’s it», is how he describes his work. For his site-specific performances he creates fantastic and atmospheric sculptures. With light, sound, kinetics and simple physics he makes time become audible and visible as if by magic.
